DRAWING ASSIGNMENT 4: VIDEO MAPPING
This was a group assignment in which we had to utilize a different media—video—in order to map the area around our upcoming project site Porta Portese. Our group decided to explore the path from Trastevere along Via Portuense, continuing through Porta Portese on an axis towards the Tiber River near Tiber Island. We documented the spaces on two different days, first on Saturday when the traffic of cars and pedestrians was fairly normal, and again on Sunday during the weekly market, during which the street gets very crowded and busy. This project was more about capturing the essence of daily life and the uses of these spaces rather than the forms of the spaces themselves. During this process we observed how drastically the environment can change from day to day and how useful it can be to have a space serve multiple purposes. We also experienced the difficulties of pedestrian traffic walking through the Porta Portese, as there is little to no room to walk and avoid cars. These observations will later influence how we redesign the urban fabric and transportation around the site in our final project.
