Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Amsterdam was a city that was less about specific buildings and more about the layout of the city and the atmosphere from street to street. I met a lot of incredible people during my time there. I experienced one of the most popular tourist destinations in several different atmospheres. The first time I experienced the I amsterdam sign was around noon during a busy time of a sunny spring day. It was difficult to even find a spot to stand near the sign for my required tourist picture. However, a few days later, a quick, spring shower rolled through and the atmosphere changed completely. The moment the rain started falling everyone ran for cover beneath the museum gift shop's overhangs. The sign was almost completely clear. Naturally, during such a drastic change I decided it was a good photo opportunity. However, within a few minutes better-prepared people had obtained raincoats and umbrellas to brave the rain. The other part I loved was the tulips. While I wasn't able to make it out to the tulip festival, I did frequently find small patches of tulips planted throughout the city in parks and small gardens.
I adored wandering the streets by the canals all day long with no particular destination in mind. While meeting one of my new friend's at their boat-hostel in the marina, the rain cleared up and we watched the most amazing sunset. I took my time to experiment with perspectives, silhouettes, and light and shadow as I photographed the views of an evening to remember with the new friends I made.
