Budapest, Hungary
The first stop on my post-study abroad travels was Budapest, Hungary. I took a plane from Rome and when I landed the first thing I saw was the city split in two along the Danube river, with a series of bridges connecting the two halves of the city. The embankments all looked perfectly flat, creating visually pleasing cityscapes across the way. On my first day, which was Europe's labor's day, I made my way across town to the Széchenyi Baths and the surrounding park area. A fair full of vendors and music was taking place, and the area felt alive. Inside the baths was very crowded with an active energy that spilled over from the fair. The building itself was super complex to navigate, much more so than it should have been to access the outdoor pool. Once there, however, I was able to relax in the cool water as the sun set.
The main attraction for me was the Parliament building. It may have just been the time of year, but there were so many different kinds of foliage and flowers around the base of the building that laying down in different locations would create an entirely new overall perception of the building. The black reflective infinity pool in front of the Parliament created the opportunity to view the building from unique perspectives.
