March 2017 Spring Break in Switzerland
During my study abroad experience I found myself in Milan the day spring break started. It only made sense to hop on a train to Switzerland to visit my relatives and the country that my ancestors come from. I wish I had taken more photographs, but I spent most of my time perusing history and art museums in Zürich and Lucerne, which don't exactly allow for plentiful photography. By far the most undocumented and life-changing experience of my time in Switzerland was visiting Peter Zumthor's Therme Vals. It was 130 swiss francs, 2 trains and a bus each way, and a six hour journey round trip, but it was priceless. How the concrete shaped the space, the way hot springs interacted with the cold mountain air, the cool controlled slivers of lighting within -- the experience was transcendent. It's a shame we aren't allowed to take pictures in there.
