SKETCHING ASSIGNMENT 10: DIAGRAMMING FACADES
While visiting the northern part of Italy, our class stopped in Vicenza to visit Villa Rotunda. This assignment was to sketch the facade and diagram its proportions. Looking at the front of the building it appears that the main center portion of it is fairly square. The stairs and small pediment in the center take up half of the width of the whole facade. The height of the covered patio to beneath the pediment is half of the building's height. The rhythm of the columns and the proportions of the different building elements to one another are significant of a Renaissance work.
